The story of my life

I've finally given in and decided that the world would be better if you knew more about my life. Egocentric? Yes. Worth Reading? No. Largely Pointless? Probably.

Employment Strikes!

It occurs to me that I've been somewhat lax in updating people as to my employment situation.

As of last Tuesday, I have a job - doing phone tech support for Interflora (Yes, the florist) - as of next Wednesday, I won't have a job any more. Seems that it was very short term contract work.

On the upside, I have an interview on Tuesday for another contract job which will take me through until at least Christmas, with the possibility of having that extended to April next year. Fingers crossed, I might actually have extended gainful employment for the first time since I worked at EA.

Yes, but is it art?

On the suggestion of someone fairly at random, I thought I'd try my hand at drawing. Now appreciate that I have no artistic talent at all, never have, and the last time I drew anything non-technical aside from the odd doodle was during my GCSEs, which is about 7 or so years ago now.

As far as inspiration goes, well, I couldn't think of anything more inspiring than April, so I decided on one of my favourite pictures of her to try and copy. Now what you're about to see lacks both a nose and a mouth for no other reason that the fact that I couldn't get them to look right - consider it a work in progress. Oh and for reference, I've also included the photo I was working from.

I will persist in the hope that I can get it to look right with all facial features intact, but we'll just have to see how successful I am.

On a side note, I should hopefully know the outcome of my job interview and the whole long-winded application process on Monday - if not, there's going to be murders.

Update:
I've reworked the sketch and although I'm still not really that happy with it, at least the facial features sort of work now, rather than looking totally out of place as they did before.

Good things come to those who...

...wait fucking ages to find out about a job. Apparently.

The interview went well, but now I have to wait for everything to be bounced to and from the US before I hear anything - Monday is looking probable at the moment.

Interview Ahoy

T-Minus 14-and-a-bit hours.

Time to read up on what this company actually does.

Flip Flopping

Another day, another phonecall, another twist in the tale of my job hunting.

Now, it seems, they do want to interview me for the Desktop Support position that I originally applied for, so on Tuesday morning I have a nice interview arranged with them so that they can tell me I'm not good enough for the job, or something.

Mood

Me...despondent

Bait & Switching Bastards

Remember that job interview?

Well I got a call today saying that they'd like me back for a proper interview...

...but not for the job I applied for, oh no, they want me for a similar role working night shifts for no extra money.

So now I'm going to have to turn down a perfectly good job because there's no way I'm working 1am to 9am doing network admin and maintenance for £13k a year.

Bastards.

Oh well, back to job hunting, I guess.

Bastards.

The waiting, the endless waiting

I had my job interview on Friday - I say interview, but in reality it was just a bank of numeracy, pattern matching and personality tests. Not even so much as a quick one-on-one chat. Ah well, perhaps they'll ask me back for an actual interview - I should know the outcome of my tests by Wednesday, or so I've been assured.

In other news, I went home for the weekend, which is was somewhat mixed. My brother pissed me off a lot and my mum spent most of the time guilting me - great fun. On a lighter note (nice to have them every so often), yesterday was my 2 month anniversary with April and I was pleased to be able to prove her wrong by remembering it :)

Anyway, with any luck I should have a job to cheer about shortly - of course I don't tend to fair too well on the luck side of things, but we shall see.

Spad.

Another update

Well, I have an interview. Not really for the job I want per se - it's only £13k/year - however, it should allow me to get the experience I need so that in 2 or 3 years I can get myself a job at twice that or more. Anyway, the interview is on Friday at 10:30, so anyone who cares, wish me luck.

On another note, Internet Explorer is crap. I've been trying to redesign one of my sites, The Pointless Stuff Archive with XHTML/CSS/PHP/MySQL for ease of use and the damn thing won't work properly in IE thanks to innumerable CSS bugs and crappy PNG support. Strike up another one for Microsoft Domination. For those who care, you can see the new (largely content-free) site here although don't expect it to be fast as it's running off my home connection.

That is all.

A revelation

I think I'm starting to understand why women think that all men are bastards - it's because we are. We're thoughtless, selfish idiots and frankly it's something of a miracle that women give us any attention at all.

All stereotypes have a basis in fact and I think I've just found it for this one.
